Riders to fix trail: Horse owners who use Hop Brook Marsh Conservation Land off Dutton Road plan to donate their labor to restore an old cart path through wetlands now that the town has provided materials to do it, said town conservation coordinator Debbie Dineen. Town officials closed the trail to horseback riding in early September due to degradation of the trail. But the Public Works Department has provided two corrugated metal culvert pipes, gravel, and a silt fence, all left over from other projects, Dineen said.

I'll see if I can get an update. A lot of stuff is confidential on account of us going up against the DEM/DCR legally. Paul.

That's fine. I was just wondering if there was anything else about building a by pass or anything like that.

Why more money? Isn't 7k enough?
The need for more funds is to survey the actual location of the road boundry. The actual road is 66 ft wide. Depending on the actual lay of this right of way there is potential of rerouting the travel path from the vernal pool water hole onto firmer ground while staying within the public right of way. The cost of this is between 10-20k
As far as any updates, there is a bit of a status quo. The NEA is still communicating with the local town and things are happening. Slowly but we are dealing with a finicially strapped town and there is also red tape. The change from DEM to DCR also set us back a bit and the dust still hasn't quite settled yet. It is important to remember that the TOWN owns this road and it is the TOWN that must approach DCR for any changes. We are doing the leg work on this but ultimately everything rests with the town.

$20k Tread Lightly! Grant Program
not sure exactly how applicable this would be, but I just learned about it at the master trainer course last weekend and thought of OFR so I figured I'd mention it jic.
