Tell me about the shafts. I have yet to break a U-joint in 10 years that wasn't the result of another failure. And I am talking atleast 10 axle shafts under my belt. It is ussually bind or an oblonged hole in one of the ears that starts it.

The rig is a 2 seat Northstar powered comp buggy. A custom high pinion pass side drop 44, built to keep the rig real light and high pinion for keeping the driveshaft up out of the way with junk yard parts. Its stuffed with 5.38's, warn shafts, CTM's THE OLD STYLE, and warn premiums(had hoped these would be the fuse). Running 37" red labels without water.

I the shafts and joints have about a 16 days hard runs on them and they finally failed. I have checked steering clearances and the joint are not binding there are no marks on either shaft indicating they have ever touched.

The climb went like this several attempts at a big steep climb that transitioned from slick stuff to lots of grip near the top. On the third or fourth attempt I brought it up on stall in third gear, released the brakes and shot up the ledge. Got up to the top and it hooked traction after smoking the slick stuff off the reds, the wheels were pointed straight ahead. And Bam!!! Stabbed the brakes slid backwards hooking a tree thankfully preventing a long uncontrolled slide back down the ledge.

A quick assessment of the damage showed the 2 trunions on the inner shaft snapped clean. The shafts did not break thankfully. Unlocked the hubs, shifted the t-case into neutral and winched it the rest of the way up.

That was the whole plan! But like I said on Pirate, Jack has a new design and this should be the last ctm that breaks.

I think the only reason I might be able to keep it alive is the weight of the buggy. No I still haven't weighed it but soon.
