While browsing craigslist, I think I may have found another Charles Parker. I obviously don't need it. I sent an email asking about what kind of vise it is. http://nh.craigslist...1908924846.html

I cracked my small cheap vice in half last night, so figured it was time to go get a nice one. Started out with this from Lowes:
Lowes vise
Got it home, the thing is a HORRIBLE design. The jaw rotation only locks in place when the clamps are clamping on something. It doesn't work well when you are holding a diff with two hands, you need to hold the vise still with a 3rd hand, and tighten it with a 4th hand.
So I went to home depot and got this:
HD Vise
Was weird though, in the store its identical to that, just branded by Irwin. One must own the other or something. Either way, it has a lifetime gaurentee, AND a locking screw to lock the jaw rotation before you need it to hold a big heavy differential for you. Very happy.

My dad recently gave me his fathers Reed. It's a solid vise that I'll have for a long time.
Also I came across this thread with lots of info on vises. http://www.garagejou...ead.php?t=62716

That thread was a good read. Nice find.
I've heard good things about Reed and Yost.
For those that are wondering, the Parker I picked up is serving me quite well. Here's the only picture I have of it so far. I plan to do electrolytic rust removal and fully paint and restore it. I'm trying to balance my time between multiple projects and but I'm finding that it's easier to use the vise than it is to work on it.

I just found this, which looks to be a No. 994. Too bad it doesn't have the base...
